I went through this book. It is a good review of GIS and is supposed to be preparation for the associate license. I have not had the chance to take the test yet, but found out preparation for the exam is supposed to include much more that this one book alone ... which was a bit of a worry. But note carefully the subtitle of the book: "... Study Guide!" I think that means it is not meant to be all that's necessary for the test preparation ... just a guide on what to study.
Make sure to check the books errata online, there were some questions that were wrong in the book, and have been corrected online.
Neither download code was valid, per Esri. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing if this was an error on the part of Esri, or a problem with the legitimacy of the codes. Whatever the cause, the book obviously works as a study guide, but its effectiveness is severely hampered since the associated software cannot be accessed as advertised.
I doubt I will go for certification - but it brings up so many things - that I have had not heard about - that will be useful for us. That in itself s well worth the money spent on this book. Lots of free how tos on the ESRI website. The ideas are here.
It is good but now outdated as the test is over version 10.3
Activation codes DO NOT WORK. And Esri will not help with the issue.
As advertised.
Great study guide and review for anyone from novice to advanced users. However, it does require a license and comes with an evaluation license of ArcGIS Desktop . With that said, the exercises are very easy to follow and the supplied data is comprehensive. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to explore ArcGIS functionality and/or take the Desktop Associate Certification.
